Winter Elopement | Jimin + Matthew | Whistler Elopements

Their winter elopement wasn’t the original plan. A larger, more traditional wedding was always the vision, but wild circumstances led them to the idea of eloping and the rest was history! With the snow-capped mountains as witnesses, Jimin + Matthew sealed their sweet love story with an ‘I Do’ right here in Whistler.

This winter elopement story starts many years ago, as Jimin + Matthew walked the halls of the same high school and eventually, the same university. As friends at first, but love blossomed between the two as years passed. Matthew recalls that Jimin wasn’t quick to accept his first date offer, but luckily she went anyway. Three years and an impeccably timed ring delivery put their engagement in motion. A weekend getaway was the perfect chance for a proposal and unlike those years before, Jimin had no hesitations when saying yes to his question!

An elopement wasn’t always in their plans. In a different time, maybe they would have had a larger, more traditional wedding with family. But due to circumstances out of their control, they were forced to make a decision – wait to get married or find another way. You already know what they chose!

Jimin + Matthew decided they could not wait to get married. “We decided eloping was the most romantic, intimate, meaningful, and fun ways to make the most of our wedding experience. A setting as magical and magnificent as Whistler made our elopement more fun and meaningful than we could have imagined.”

So on a winter day in Whistler, they exchanged their vows and slid their rings onto each other’s hands. They said yes to forever in a snow-covered field surrounded by mountains and pines. And the coolest part? Matthew’s grandfather performed the ceremony, just as he had for Matthew’s parents as well. What a way to include family and create sentimental moments, even while family isn’t physically present!

We asked Jimin + Matthew if they had any advice to share with couples who are considering an elopement. We love what they chose to share!

1. We found it valuable and worthwhile to be open and transparent to the people close in our lives about our intentions for eloping.
2. We recommend hiring a professional company to capture the wedding day on photos and video. It is so enjoyable to look back on them and relive the experience.
3. We both felt crazy and nervous about eloping, but we found it worthwhile to let go and enjoy the ride!
