Whistler Micro-Wedding | Annie + Jay | Whistler Elopements

Annie + Jay were early adopters of the Whistler micro-wedding. As soon as Covid-19 restrictions lifted in June, they pivoted their plans to host their favourite people for a wedding in the Callaghan Valley

Annie and Jay have always wanted to have a small wedding because neither of them like being in the spotlight or the centre of attention. When the global Covid-19 pandemic reached BC in March 2020, they were assured of their plans to tie the knot with just a few of their favourite people. They waited patiently, silently playing chicken with the social distancing Covid-19 restrictions as their wedding day drew closer. Luckily the announcement came that BC would enter Phase 3 four days prior to their wedding. The timing was perfect. Annie + Jay’s Whistler micro-wedding could go ahead.

There was some pivoting involved, since it was no longer possible to get a dinner reservation for their 15 guests with the new rules. This lead Annie + Jay on the search for the perfect Whistler micro-wedding venue. The search lead them to the Caboose at the Canadian Wilderness Adventures base in the Callaghan Valley. The space creates a perfect outdoor reception area for a harvest table with string lights to set the ambience. Pair it with catering from The Collective Kitchen, and the atmosphere will rival any 5-Star restaurant in the world.

For Annie + Jay’s ceremony, being near water was very important to them. Tofino played a huge role in their relationship and proximity to the water was a great way of tying in that element. Additionally since their guest list was quite small, we had a perfect Whistler micro-wedding ceremony space for them on some rocks above the roaring Cheakamus river. The ceremony location is also quite accessible and they plan to revisit it every chance they get.

Small and micro-weddings are a growing new trend. Partly because of Covid-19 and partly because to a lot of couples, it just makes sense.

While big weddings are some other people’s dreams, we dreaded the idea of making small talk to a hundred guests and even meeting some people for the first time at our wedding. We always knew we wanted to keep it small, intimate and personal.
