A Sea to Sky elopement gave Chrissy + Alec everything they dreamed of for their wedding day. Forests, mountains, nature, and adventure – a day that truly felt like them. Even some rain couldn’t derail this absolutely dreamy day.
After meeting in nursing school, Chrissy + Alec spent the next five years falling in love while adventuring and exploring the world together. Their original plan? South Africa in April of 2020. But instead of heading to the other side of the world to get married, Chrissy and Alec spent months on the front lines of the pandemic. Deciding they didn’t want to wait to elope, they realized nothing made more sense than getting married in their home country. Their Sea to Sky elopement was something out of a storybook, a magical day these two so rightfully deserved.
Even though the day started off with rain, it ended with rainbows breaking through the moody skies. Chrissy + Alec were great examples of embracing what comes as Mother Nature does her thing. As long as our couples come with an open mind, we’ll come armed with everything to make a wild weather elopement special. A cozy AirBnb first look. Umbrellas to add some fun. Back-up plans that you love just as much as the original plan. From potential weather qualms to the ever-changing pandemic regulations, we’re here to remind you that it will all work out just as it should.
If you need proof that even bad weather and back-up plans turn out magically here in Whistler, take a peek at what Chrissy + Alec had to say about their day.
Why did you choose to elope?
Chrissy + Alec: “Eloping was not a new idea for us. When we first started dating, we were opposed to the idea of marriage. As our bond grew so much stronger over the years, our minds changed about this and we wanted to marry each other. We always loved the idea of eloping because we loved the idea of celebrating our union and solidifying our commitment to each other in the most intimate way, and doing so with a day filled with what represents us the most individually and as a couple.”
Any advice for other couples planning an elopement?
Chrissy + Alec: “We think that planning an elopement is such an exhilarating, fun, and special moment in a couple’s journey together. It is so important to take some time to really communicate with each other about what your visions are for your special day, what activities or environment you would like to be in and what would make you happiest (do you want to wake up early, sleep in, eat cake for breakfast, do a first look, write your vows ….). Of course, there will always be challenges with eloping. Others may have opposing opinions to the way in which you are choosing to marry, you may feel overwhelmed with so many different options, and plans may not always work out 100% the way you thought they would. Looking back, we realize all the little stressors, and last minute changes were part of the experience, and we wouldn’t change any of it.”
Can you share about your experience with Whistler Elopements?
Chrissy + Alec: “It was a sincere pleasure. It makes it even more special to have gotten to share our day with this group of professionals who are such kind-hearted, genuine souls who really care about others. For us, it was really important to choose a team/company that shared our morals and who strives toward ensuring their business represents inclusivity and openness.”
“To this day, we talk about how Whistler Elopements coordinated our day so flawlessly. We got to experience sun, rain, snowy mountain tops, waterfalls, and rainbows. It was better than a dream. We have recommended them to so many people, and we have had so many ask about them in return. The quality of their work and their response time exceeded all our expectations. We did not have to worry or think about how our photos would turn out (I know a lot of people who got anxious over this), and the video of our day captured everything from the big moments, to the small, intimate ones. Steve delivered a beautiful and unique ceremony that made us think, laugh, and shed all the happy tears. I do not know how it could have been better.”
We couldn’t have imagined a more perfect day, either! We were honoured to bring them to rainbow filled skies after a year filled of rain. We’re so thankful for all of our frontline workers, people like Chrissy + Alec, who have worked so hard in such difficult times. Our couples truly are the best!
