Before we can talk about their riverside wedding in Whistler, you must know the journey that led them to us. Their story began in highschool in Bangalore, India. Fifteen years later, Irene decided to reach out to Rohit after reminiscing with a mutual highschool friend at a party. The chemistry sparked from their first four-hour chat. So began their long distance relationship with Irene in Dubai and Rohit in California. Fast forward three years, Irene + Rohit decided it was time to live within the same borders. They started the next chapter of their relationship in the same time-zone. A true romantic, Rohit proposed on the day Irene landed in Vancouver!

“One of the (few) advantages of long-distance when you’re planning a proposal is that it’s so much easier to keep things secret. I could plan and practice when Irene was asleep, and then chat with her when she woke up like it was just another day. We had originally planned a trip to India before flying to Vancouver together in April 2020. I thought it would be a fun surprise to get both families together and surprise everyone with the proposal. Unfortunately, COVID-19 broke out, and we had to cancel the trip. Even with all the last-minute changes, I must have done something right, because she said YES!”

Joined by Irene’s brother, sister-in-law and their son, they chose to elope in Whistler beside the river. Rohit spent most of his time in the US hiking, camping and exploring as many National Parks as he could. The idea of getting married in the outdoors really resonated with them. Largely a result of the pandemic restrictions, they decided to elope. But it ended up being the best decision they could have made!

“It was also really great that the ceremony could be streamed. Our family and friends from all over the world could virtually join us and watch the ceremony live. We also love how the team really respected the environment we were in. Everything about the ceremony was perfect, and we ended up having an amazing day! It was almost impossible to believe that the process was so seamless, and weddings could be so stress-free!”
